Name: Kate Bishop
Fandom: Marvel
Age: Approximately 16
Point in Canon: After Siege but before the Children’s Crusade.
History: Kate was born into great wealth as the daughter of publishing mogul Derek Bishop. She could have easily lived off her daddy’s money and became a spoiled socialite; live the stereotypical life. Instead, she chose to do something with herself, modeling her behavior off her mother, Eleanor. She and her mother were both humanitarians, volunteering both time and money to try to make the world a better place.
Her world began to shake when her mother died suddenly when she was just entering her teen years. Her sister, Susan, believed that their mother died because she was spreading herself too thin, and as a result forgot to take care of herself. Kate refused to believe it, and continued her mother’s crusade to help the world. She lived selflessly for years, until a few months before her birthday, she was sexually assaulted on her way home in Central Park.
For a while she was very introspective, not wanting to let anyone near her. After a while, she refused to play the victim any longer, and began extensive training in various martial arts at both the exclusive Interlochen National Music Camp and at her private school, Hawthorne Academy, convinced that neither she nor anyone else under her watch would come to harm. She became skilled in various martial arts as well as in multiple weapons.
On her sister’s wedding day, a day that should have changed her sister Susan’s life forever, changed Kate’s instead. The high scale St. Patrick’s Cathedral wedding was held hostage by five men with guns. While the others worried, Kate got angry. She wanted to do something, but she couldn’t in her current state. Just then, the fledgling Young Avengers broke through the window and engaged the group in combat. Unfortunately for the Young Avengers, they were still relatively new and disorganized at the time, and if it wasn’t for Kate stabbing the leader in the leg with a throwing star, they would have been defeated. She kicked ass even after being held hostage, she’s just that awesome.
At the hospital (she was fine, but her father wanted to throw his money around to have someone tell him she was fine), she ran into future teammate Cassie Lang, and the two travelled to the burnt out remains of the Avengers mansion to try and force the boys (who were also there) to let them join. Unfortunately for all involved, the adults (Captain America, Iron Man, and Jessica Jones), found the Young Avengers around the same time. While Kate was dismissed (either because of who she was or because of ), the others were locked into the training room. She didn’t like being underestimated, and so she broke the others out of where they were being held. But not after doing recon of the building, first. She collected as many weapons as she could for herself (the Swordman’s sword, Mockingbird’s battle staves, Hawkeye’s bow and arrow) and Eli (Bucky’s shield) and filled the others in on their situation.
They then fought Kang the Conquerer and won.
Despite the fact that they all just kicked major ass and saved the adults, Captain America still forced them to disband. The others begrudgingly accepted the decision, but not Kate. She used her dad’s wealth to get them a headquarters (a former Bishop Publishing warehouse), and new costumes. At her insistence, the Young Avengers reformed once more.
With the Young Avengers, she fought Krees and Skrulls and bank robbers and crazed supervillains... and her own emotions. She developed quite a crush on their leader, Eli, but has been too chicken to admit it. She doesn’t want to hurt the group dynamic, and, to be frank, she’s not sure she’d make a good enough girlfriend.
She had just finished her fencing lesson and was taking her belongings out of her locker when she was transported to the Isola.
Personality: Kate’s primary trait is her determination. Once she gets it into her mind to do something, she’s going to do it, obstacles be damned. That isn’t to say that her decisions aren’t brash, though. Of course she’s still a kid and all kids make brash decisions, but Kate tends to think about her decisions before executing them. Don’t confuse making quick decisions with making uninformed decisions.
She’s also incredibly headstrong. She knows what she wants and she won’t stop until she gets it, and she won’t let anyone get in her way. She’s already told of Captain America, no one really scares her.
She’s also mature for her age. Between her upbringing, her mother’s death, and her assault, she tends to act older than the rest of her peers. She’s also incredibly observant.
Items/things: Her fencing uniform, her School uniform, her backpack containing her sword, battle staves, books, and Hawkeye costume, a bag carrying her bow, a bag carrying her fencing equipment, and a cello in a cello case. (How the hell she walks around with this crap on a regular basis is beyond me)
Abilities: None, other than the skills she acquired through intense training. She’s proficient at archery, fencing, sword fighting, jujitsu, boxing, and other forms of combat.
